Cambodia earns over 328 mln USD from rubber exports in 8 months, up 15.5 pct

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia made 328.3 million U.S. dollars in revenue from exports of natural rubber latex in the first eight months of 2024, up 15.5 percent from 284.1 million dollars over the same period 2023, an official report showed on Tuesday.

The kingdom exported 209,733 tons of the commodity during the January-August period this year, up 2.22 percent from 205,168 tons over the same period 2023, said the report of the General Directorate of Rubber.

"A ton of rubber latex averagely cost 1,565 U.S. dollars during the first eight months of 2024, about 180 dollars higher than that of the same period last year," Khun Kakada, acting-director general of the General Directorate of Rubber, said in the report.

The Southeast Asian nation exports the commodity mainly to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and China.

According to the report, Cambodia has so far planted rubber trees in a total area of 407,172 hectares, in which the trees on 320,184 hectares, or 78.6 percent, are old enough to be tapped. Enditem
