ULAN BATOR, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia plans to build a total of 2,100 km of roads in 2025, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the country's Ministry of Finance.

"For example, in addition to continuing the construction project of Khavirga and Ulikhan port roads, new Shiveehuren, Bichigt and Artssuuri port roads will be built. Plans also include developing new roads to enhance provincial connectivity and support tourism in high-traffic areas," the Department of Development Financing and Investment of the ministry said in a statement.

One of the key goals of Mongolia's medium-term development program, the "New Revival Policy," is to achieve economic independence through port revival. As part of the port revival, the landlocked country aims to upgrade existing paved roads leading to the ports and construct new paved roads and railways to improve connectivity between these ports and various provinces.

As of 2023, Mongolia's state road network spans over 112,400 km, with just over 7,800 km paved, according to official data from the Ministry of Road and Transport, indicating that the majority of the roads in Mongolia remain unpaved. Enditem
