MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Two children lost their lives as an unexploded device left over from wars went off in eastern Afghanistan's Wardak province on Monday, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Yusuf Esrar said Tuesday.

The deadly accident took place in Snaglakh village of Jalriz district on Monday when the children found and played with the toy-like device, said the officer.

Afghanistan is one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world, as explosive devices and unexploded mines left over from the past more than four decades of wars claim lives of over a dozen people, mostly children, every month in the war-torn country. Enditem
