India's wholesale inflation falls to 1.31 pct in Aug

NEW DELHI, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index declined to 1.31 percent in August, data released by the federal ministry of commerce and industry said Tuesday.

"Positive rate of inflation in August 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, processed food products, other manufacturing, manufacture of textiles and manufacture of machinery and equipment, etc," the ministry said in a statement.

This is for the first time in four months that wholesale inflation dropped below 2 percent.

WPI Food inflation fell from 3.55 percent in July to 3.26 percent in August.

The Food Index consisting of food articles from primary articles group and food product from manufactured products group have decreased from 195.4 in July 2024 to 193.2 in August 2024. Enditem
