KIEV, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine has intercepted 34 out of 51 Russian combat drones in an attack on energy infrastructure, the Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday.

Air defense systems were active over five regions in southern, central, eastern and northeastern Ukraine, said the Ukrainian Air Force.

Twelve drones have vanished from radar, while two others returned to Russia, it said.

The attack triggered blackouts in the northeastern Sumy region, where 16 Shahed drones were shot down, according to the Sumy regional military administration.

There were no reports of casualties following the attack. Enditem
