MANILA -- At least 20 people have died, and 14 others are missing due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon as well as two recent tropical cyclones Ferdie and Gener, the Philippine authorities said on Wednesday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said it received reports that 20 people died in five regions across the country, and that the numbers are still being verified. (Philippines-Cyclones-Death)

VIENTIANE -- Over 176,000 people in 15 provinces across Laos have been hit by serious floods after days of continuous heavy rain caused by several storms.

YANGON -- Over 100 individuals in Chaungchar village in Tatkon township of Nay Pyi Taw were hospitalized due to food poisoning, according to a release issued by the country's State Administration Council's Information Team on Wednesday.

The villagers in Chaungchar village, a flood-affected region, experienced symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea after consuming biryani, chicken and potatoes, and tomato egg curry donated by the well-wishers on the morning of Sept. 17, the information team said. (Myanmar-Food Poisoning)

SUVA -- Fiji and Japan signed an exchange of notes on Wednesday for a second stand-by disaster loan financing of around 72.0 million Fijian dollars (around 32.4 million U.S. dollars), which will assist in any future needs for disaster recovery and rehabilitation.

According to Fijian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Biman Prasad, the loan facility comes with a 40-year term, including a 10-year grace period, and carries an interest rate of 0.4 percent per annum. (Fiji-Japan-Standby Disaster Loan) Enditem
