SEOUL, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export fell for the third successive month due to lower global demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Thursday.

Car shipment diminished 4.3 percent from a year earlier to 5.07 billion U.S. dollars in August, keeping a single-digit reduction since June, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

For the first eight months of this year, the automotive export reached 47.44 billion dollars, up 1.3 percent compared to the same period of last year.

The number of exported vehicles was 188,619 in August, down 6.2 percent from a year earlier.

Export for eco-friendly sedans dipped 6.6 percent to 1.68 billion dollars last month, and auto parts shipment shrank 3.5 percent to 1.84 billion dollars.

The number of vehicles, manufactured in local factories, sank 7.1 percent to 289,948 in August on a yearly basis.

The number of cars sold domestically, including locally-made and imported vehicles, came in at 128,199 in August, down 1.9 percent from a year earlier. Enditem
