HANOI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's frozen durian export to China is expected to hit 300 million U.S. dollars this year, Vietnam News Agency reported, citing Huynh Tan Dat, director of the Plant Protection Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday.

While Vietnam holds great potential for exporting frozen durian to China, the country is facing numerous challenges including ensuring food hygiene and safety requirements, packaging processes and traceability, he said.

The official said businesses need to constantly improve freezing technology, product quality, tracking systems, and production control of the frozen durian.

Last month, the two countries signed a protocol for exporting frozen durian from Vietnam to China.

In 2023, Vietnam exported about 500,000 tons of fresh durian with revenue of 2.3 billion dollars, up to 90 percent of which was to China, according to the ministry. Enditem
