YANGON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Over 2,800 villages in Myanmar have benefited from cash-for-work projects implemented by the country's Department of Rural Development, the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television reported on Friday.

The project was launched in 2,505 villages in the 2019-2020 fiscal year, followed by 220 villages in the 2022-2023 fiscal year and 98 villages in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the report said.

The media report, citing Soe Than, a deputy director general of the department, said that most rural people faced income difficulties in 2019-2020, while the project aimed to address those challenges by providing employment opportunities.

Each village receives 10 million kyats (about 4,761.9 U.S. dollars) under the project, with local committees choosing low-income households and families with many members to participate in the project, it added. Enditem
