THE HAGUE, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The 22-year-old man arrested for Thursday evening's fatal stabbing near the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam of the Netherlands is suspected of a terrorist motive and will appear before a magistrate on Monday, according to the Rotterdam Public Prosecution Service (OM).

The police are conducting an extensive investigation into the incident, the OM said in a statement. A 32-year-old man from Rotterdam was killed in the incident and another 33-year-old Swiss man was injured.

Preliminary findings suggest the suspect, from Amersfoort, a city in the province of Utrecht, may have been ideologically driven, as witnesses reported hearing him shout "Allahu Akbar" several times during the attack, the OM said.

However, the OM stressed that the investigation is still ongoing and that other potential motives have not been ruled out.

The suspect is known to both the police and the judiciary, having previously been convicted for violent incidents, the OM said. Enditem
