KHARTOUM, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and nine others injured in an artillery shelling attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on residential areas in Omdurman city, north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, local health authorities announced on Saturday.

Among the deceased were two children, who died when a shell struck a shelter center in the Al Thawra neighborhood, while two others were killed by shelling that hit a government building in the Karari neighborhood, according to Mohamed Ibrahim, spokesman for Khartoum State's Health Ministry.

The injured were transferred to Al-Nao Hospital, the spokesman added, noting that the actual number of casualties might be higher, as the ministry was unable to account for cases that did not reach hospitals.

The RSF has not yet commented on the attacks.

Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a violent conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, resulting in at least 16,650 deaths and the displacement of millions of people, according to UN estimates. Enditem
