BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- A first-half goal from former Argentina international midfielder Manuel Lanzini fired River Plate to a 1-0 away victory over rivals Boca Juniors in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday.

Lanzini put his side ahead with a first-time effort from inside the six-yard box after Facundo Colidio's effort was parried clear by goalkeeper Sergio Romero at La Bombonera.

It marked Lanzini's first goal for River Plate since he returned to his original club in August last year.

"To come here for the first time in 10 years and score the winning goal is incredible," the 31-year-old former West Ham player said.

"I needed this goal. I have been giving 100% but sometimes things don't go your way, even when you prepare yourself the best you can."

River Plate are now fifth in the Primera Division standings with 24 points from 15 games, six points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield. Boca are 11th, three points further back.

In other fixtures on Saturday, Newell's Old Boys won 1-0 at home to Tigre, Barracas Central prevailed 1-0 at Instituto Cordoba, and San Lorenzo drew 0-0 at Defensa y Justicia. Enditem
