COLOMBO -- Anura Kumara Dissanayake, candidate of National People's Power, emerged as the winner in the presidential election in Sri Lanka held on Saturday, the Election Commission confirmed Sunday.

Given that no candidate secured more than 50 percent of the votes, the Election Commission counted the second and third preferences of the two leading candidates, the first time in history of Sri Lankan presidential election. (Sri Lanka-Presidential Election)

ISLAMABAD -- A policeman was killed and three others were injured while escorting a group of diplomats traveling from Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province to the capital Islamabad on Sunday, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

An advance scout police vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Swat district of KP, which resulted in casualty of the police, the foreign ministry said in a statement. (Pakistan-Attack-Diplomats)

YANGON -- Myanmar will hold the Yangon International Trade Expo 2024 on Oct. 25-27, according to organizer U Zarni on Sunday.

YANGON -- Myanmar will showcase 84 booths at the 21st China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from Sept. 24 to 28, the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television reported on Sunday.

The booths will display a variety of products, including rice, Arabica coffee, aquatic products, fruits, tea, spices, woodwork, handicrafts, and gems, the report said. (Myanmar-China-Expo) Enditem
