Malaysia's inflation eases to 1.9 pct in August

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), eased to 1.9 percent in August, official data showed Monday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement the inflation was driven by increases in the main groups of restaurant and accommodation services (3.2 percent); personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services (3.2 percent); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (3.1 percent) and recreation, sports and culture (2 percent).

The food and beverages group, which contributes 29.8 percent of the total CPI weight, increased by 1.6 percent in August, the same rate as recorded in July 2024.

Furthermore, inflation for transport increased by 1.3 percent in August as compared to 1.2 percent in July.

The overall monthly inflation for August recorded an increase of 0.1 percent, the same rate as recorded in July. Enditem
