NEW DELHI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least eight fishermen were killed and one went missing after a trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal, officials said Monday.

The trawler capsized early Saturday after getting caught in a storm, 60 km off the Namkhana coast of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

"There were 17 fishermen on the trawler. After it capsized, eight fishermen were rescued immediately by nearby fishing boats. However, nine others went missing," a police official said. "On Sunday, we recovered eight bodies and the search for one missing fisherman is underway."

Following the trawler capsize, a search operation was launched by the police and Indian Coast Guard to trace the missing fishermen. Enditem
