NEW DELHI -- At least eight fishermen were killed and one went missing after a trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal, officials said Monday.

The trawler capsized early Saturday after getting caught in a storm, 60 km off the Namkhana coast of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. (India-Trawler-Capsize)

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono emphasized the importance of learning from China's agricultural advancements to help Indonesia achieve food self-sufficiency amidst challenges like climate change and limited arable land.

"Amidst the challenges of climate change and limited land, we can learn from their (China's) agricultural technology and policies, and we can achieve food self-sufficiency like China," Sudaryono said in a statement on Sunday. (Indonesia-China-Food Self-Sufficiency)

TOKYO -- A mini truck collided with a daycare transport van at an intersection in Rokunohe of Japan's Aomori Prefecture on Monday, killing three and injuring four others, according to local police.

The accident happened around 9:00 a.m. local time at a crossroads. Three elderly passengers in the van were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead from severe injuries. (Japan-Road-Collision)

HONG KONG -- Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) on Monday announced that the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) handled about 4.92 million passengers, representing a 23 percent year-on-year growth, while cargo throughput was up 10.6 percent to 406,000 tons in August.

In August 2024, daily passenger traffic exceeded 170,000 on peak days. On Aug. 18, the HKIA handled 174,600 passengers, reaching another post-pandemic high. All passenger segments, including Hong Kong residents and visitors and transfer/transit passengers, saw significant growth compared to the same month last year. Traffic to and from Southeast Asia, the Chinese mainland, and Japan recorded the most significant monthly increases. (HK-Airport) Enditem
