KABUL, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A total of 30 couples got married at a mass wedding party in Afghanistan's capital city Kabul on Tuesday.

The ceremony was organized by a local charity foundation, Selab, and the foundation also provided household appliances, including carpets, blankets, and kitchen tools for the newlyweds, said Sayed Ahmad Selab, organizer of the ceremony.

The wedding ceremony was held at Taj Continental, a luxury hotel in Kabul and attended by high-ranking government officials, including Abbas Stanekzai, acting deputy foreign minister for political affairs.

In Afghanistan, the high cost of lavish dowries and expensive gifts often force young people to wait for years to get married.

The Afghan caretaker government has called on people to avoid wasting money on marriages.
