MEXICO CITY, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed after Hurricane John made landfall in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, Governor Evelyn Salgado said on Tuesday.

Speaking at Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's daily press briefing, Salgado said that the casualties were caused by the storm-triggered landslide.

Hurricane John, a Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, hit the Guerrero coast on Monday with sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h) and gusts up to 137 mph (220 km/h), according to local authorities.

Shortly after making landfall, the hurricane weakened into a tropical storm. Enditem
