World-class Wushu Championships kick off in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The 9th World Junior Wushu Championships kicked off in Brunei on Wednesday.

According to the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), 50 teams worldwide attended the Championships in Brunei, and participants will engage in Wushu competition and cultural exchange over the next five days, showcasing the charm of Wushu arts and culture. Over 80 gold medals are up for grab during the Championships.

Muhammad Firdaus, the executive committee co-chairman of the Championships, said in his opening speech that "the championship is more than just a competition, it is a celebration of the Wushu spirit that unites us all."

Firdaus, also the President of Brunei-China Friendship Association, said, "I have no doubt that each one of you will showcase not only your remarkable talents, but also the courage, dedication, and respect that make Wushu a truly special martial art."

"Let the flame of Wushu burn brightly within each of you. Compete with passion, respect, and honor. You are not just participants, you are ambassadors of the Wushu spirit!" he added.

The World Junior Wushu Championships, a premier event organized by the IWUF for young Wushu athletes, has been held biennially since its debutance in Malaysia in 2006. The 9th edition is undertaken by the Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam, with support from the Brunei government. Enditem
