LONDON, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City on Wednesday confirmed that Spain international midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez suffered knee "ligament damage" during Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal.

"Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee," explained the Premier League leaders on their official website, adding that he has "travelled to Spain to seek consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester."

However, the club did not say if Rodri has suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament, commenting only that "assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis."

Speaking earlier on Wednesday, Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola told reporters the club still didn't "have the definitive (diagnosis)" for Rodri.

"He'll be out for a long time, a while, but there are some opinions that maybe it will be less than we expect."

"We're waiting the last phone calls from him and the doctors to know exactly what, definitely, he has and the type of surgery that he has to get," said the coach, who added that Rodri was "irreplaceable and the team won't play with the best midfielder in the world for a long, long time." Enditem
