JERUSALEM, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- An Iraqi militia fired at least two drones at Israel's Red Sea resort city of Eilat on Wednesday night, injuring two men lightly, Israeli sources said.

The drones were launched from the east of Israel, setting off air raid sirens in the city, the Israel Defense Forces said, adding one of the drones was intercepted by a Sa'ar 5-class corvette of the Israeli Navy.

The other drone exploded in the port of Eilat, lightly injuring a 28-year-old man and a 68-year-old man, who was wounded by glass shreds, Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service said in a statement.

Iraq's Sabereen News reported the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the drone attacks.

Since the onset of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has executed numerous attacks on Israeli and U.S. targets in the region to support Palestinians in Gaza. The group escalated its attacks on Israel after the recent flare-up between Israel and Hezbollah. Enditem
