KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI), which measures the price changes of goods at the producer level, eased to 0.3 percent in August, as compared to 1.3 percent in the previous month, official data showed Thursday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the PPI was the lowest rate recorded since February, owing to lower primary commodity prices.

According to DOSM, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector went up 2.7 percent, while the manufacturing sector increased 1 percent.

The index of water supply as well as electricity and gas supply increased 8 percent and 1 percent, respectively.

The mining sector, however, decreased 8.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, the PPI for local production declined 0.9 percent. Enditem
