CARACAS, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Latin American regional bloc, Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), agreed on Thursday to strengthen cooperation and oppose foreign military bases in the region.

During the Political Council meeting in New York, representatives from the bloc's 10 member states committed to advancing their Development Cooperation Agency and planned an extraordinary summit of heads of state for December.

Venezuelan Jorge Arreaza, the executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, read out the agreed-upon document, highlighting the political principles of the bloc.

"It reaffirms the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and opposes the establishment of military bases on our continent," he said.

Members of the bloc also condemned the U.S. sanctions on Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil stressed the bloc's willingness to advance agricultural cooperation projects and initiatives to combat climate change. Enditem
