SANAA -- Yemen's Houthis said on Friday in a statement that they had fired "a ballistic missile and a drone" deep into Israel.

"In support of Palestine and Lebanon, we carried out a military operation against an Israeli target in the Jaffa area, Tel Aviv, using a ballistic missile, and launched a drone attack on another vital Israeli target in the coastal Israeli city of Ashkelon," the statement, aired by the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, quoted Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea as saying. ADDIS ABABA -- A total of 32,407 cases of mpox, including 6,441 confirmed cases and 840 deaths, have been reported across the African continent since the start of this year, according to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

During an online media briefing on the multi-country mpox outbreak in Africa Thursday evening, Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said the continent reported 2,910 new cases in the past week alone, including 436 confirmed cases and 16 deaths, bringing the total number of cases this year to 32,407. ANKARA -- The Turkish forces have "neutralized" 22 "terrorists" in operations in northern Iraq and northern Syria, the country's Defense Ministry said on Friday.

Twenty-one members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were "neutralized" in the Gara and Asos regions of northern Iraq, the ministry said in a statement, adding one more "terrorist" belonging to the PKK's Syrian branch, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), was killed in northern Syria's "Operation Euphrates Shield" region. TOKYO -- Former Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba won Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presidential election on Friday, virtually ensuring that he will become the country's next prime minister.
