KAMPALA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's star badminton player Husina Kobugabe has left for training in Paris, France.

The 23-year-old ranked 141st in the World said before she traveled on Monday that the training in Paris will benefit her immensely because it is high level.

"I am very happy that I am going back to Paris to train with well qualified coaches and other top players. My dream is to become better and better to be able to qualify for the Olympics four years from now," added Kobugabe.

Her local coach William Kabindi explained that Kobugabe's chance to train for two months at the Issy Les Moulineaux in Paris is very timely because it will help her improve on several aspects of her game. "The plan is to see Kobugabe play in several International Championships including the World Championship in-order to improve on her ranking and qualify for the next Olympic Games," added Kabindi.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA), Simon Mugabi said it is always very encouraging to see the local players get the opportunities to train with top teams and coaches outside the continent. "I am certain this training camp will help Kobugabe to improve in several aspects of her game," added Mugabi.

Early this year Kobugabe re-wrote Uganda's history when she paired with Gladys Mbabazi to win Uganda first badminton gold medal in the women's doubles at the All Africa Games held in Ghana. She went on to win a silver medal in the women's singles at the same Games.

Kobugabe, Africa's third best ranked player was also part of Uganda's team that participated in the 2024 Uber Cup which took place in Chengdu, China in May this year. Enditem
