MANILA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' debt had decreased to 15.55 trillion pesos (roughly 276.82 billion U.S. dollars) as of August, 0.9 percent lower than at the end of July, the Philippines' Bureau of Treasury said on Tuesday.

The bureau attributed the decrease in the national government's debt level in August to the revaluation effect of peso appreciation and the net repayment of external debt.

The bureau said 30.60 percent of the total debt stock was sourced externally while 69.40 percent were domestic borrowings.

Since the beginning of the year, the bureau said external debt has increased by 3.5 percent. Enditem
