JERUSALEM, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Israel on Tuesday broadened restrictions on civilians in central Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, after Hezbollah fired missiles at central Israel following Israel's ground invasion into southern Lebanon.

The updated guidelines, issued by the Home Front Command, raised the alert level to Stage 2 for areas in the north and center of the country, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Sharon region, the Carmel area, Wadi Ara, and the northern occupied West Bank.

In these areas, schools and other educational activities may only be conducted in locations equipped with bomb shelters. Gatherings were limited to 30 people in open spaces and 300 people indoors.

The changes, coming a day before the Jewish New Year, take effect immediately and will remain in place at least until the end of the holiday on Saturday night, according to the Home Front Command.

The military said in a statement that the new restrictions were issued "following a situational assessment." They were released after Hezbollah fired several Fadi-4 missiles, claiming to target the Mossad headquarters north of Tel Aviv. One man was moderately injured. Enditem
