Over 5,000 arrested for drug-related crimes in 8 months in Myanmar

YANGON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have arrested a total of 5,286 suspects for drug offenses between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31 this year, the state-run media The Mirror reported on Wednesday.

The suspects were apprehended in 3,832 cases during this period, the report said.

The narcotics and related items seized in the cases were valued at approximately 750 billion kyats (about 357 million U.S. dollars), it said.

The Southeast Asian country is collaborating with international organizations to effectively combat drug trafficking, the report added. Enditem
