ISLAMABAD, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 100 people were killed for resisting separate incidents of robbery in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi during the first nine months of 2024, an official statement said.

A total of 1,500 vehicles and 35,000 motorbikes were either snatched or stolen from the city from January to September 2024, the Citizen Police Liaison Committee said in the statement on Thursday.

Apart from that, some 15,000 mobile phones were snatched from the residents, the report said, adding that most of the fatalities happened when people resisted snatchers.

In addition to the notable surge in the violent nature of street crimes, there has also been a sharp increase in the number of gangs involved in robberies.

About 25-30 criminal groups were engaged in street crimes a few years ago, but that number has grown to between 50 and 60 in the city over the last two years. Enditem
