VIENTIANE, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government is enhancing the competitiveness of domestic companies from various industrial and manufacturing sectors to implement a self-reliant economic model and expand exports.

During the Made in Laos 2024 fair, the government awarded trophies to outstanding companies that have improved or developed their products to national and international standards, as part of efforts to promote local products and boost exports.

Laos' National Quality Award, a national-level honor, was presented to companies in Laos to promote and encourage the rapid development of businesses, ensuring they become more competitive and recognized internationally, Lao National Radio on Friday quoted Director General of the Department of Standardization and Metrology under the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce Viengthong Vongthavilay as saying at the event.

"This is the first ever Lao national quality standard award, given to various outstanding companies. It prioritizes and promotes domestic firms that are significantly engaged in local production and aspire to grow their export capabilities," said Viengthong.

A total of 12 companies were awarded trophies. Of these, eight companies received golden trophies, while the remaining were awarded silver trophies. Enditem
