BEIRUT, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two paramedics from the Hezbollah-linked Islamic Health Authority were killed and three others wounded on Friday in an Israeli airstrike on an ambulance in Marjeyoun town of southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese medical sources.
The sources, who spoke anonymously, said an Israeli drone fired an air-to-ground missile at an ambulance belonging to the health organization as it passed in front of the Marjeyoun Governmental Hospital in the town.
"This led to the deaths of two paramedics, injuries to three others, and a fire on the vehicle," they added. A medical source in the hospital told Xinhua that the wounded are in critical condition and are undergoing surgery.
The incident followed an Israeli airstrike targeting the Islamic Health Authority's center in the al-Bachoura area in Beirut early Thursday, which the organization stated killed seven of its staffers, including medical workers. Local media reported that nine were killed and 14 more injured in the airstrike.
Israel has recently intensified airstrikes on Beirut and its suburbs, mainly targeting Hezbollah officials and facilities. At the same time, it continued raids in southern and eastern Lebanon. Lebanese military sources reported that Israeli warplanes and drones carried out about 30 dawn and morning attacks in the south and east of Lebanon on Friday.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced in separate statements that it had attacked several Israeli sites and targets, including the Elania base, a Merkava tank in the occupied Al-Malikiyah site, Kiryat Shmona city, al-Motella settlement, and northern Haifa, with rocket salvos.
Since Sept. 23, the Israeli army has been launching intensive airstrikes across Lebanon in a dangerous escalation with Hezbollah.
This further fueled the ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah that started on Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, triggering Israeli retaliatory fire and airstrikes in southeastern Lebanon. Enditem
