CAIRO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Friday condemned the Israeli aggression on Lebanon that resulted in heavy casualties, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

In a phone conversation, the two top diplomats discussed the situation in Lebanon and the Israeli escalation in the region, highlighting their countries' "full solidarity with Lebanon and its people amid the ongoing crisis." They added the two countries will continue coordination to address the dangers facing the Arab region due to the Israeli aggression against Palestinians and Lebanese.

The two ministers stressed the importance of providing humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people, and reaffirmed opposition to any arrangements or measures that will impact the safety and sovereignty of Lebanon, the statement said.

The two sides emphasized the comprehensive implementation of the UN Resolution 1701 by all parties, and urged the international community to assume its responsibilities to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, it added.

Confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have sharply escalated after the latter announced a shift in military focus from Gaza to the northern front in mid-September.

The sharp escalation has raised concerns about a potential full-scale conflict between Israel and Lebanon, with fears that other regional powers could also be sucked in. Enditem
