VIENTIANE, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gathered in Lao capital Vientiane to discuss and review the progress of the community building of ASEAN.
ASEAN senior officials gathered on Monday for the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting, chaired by Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongphane Savanphet.
The meeting reviewed the progress made towards strengthening the ASEAN community through the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the achievements in implementing the nine priorities under Laos' ASEAN chairmanship in 2024, including the development of strategic plans for the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
The meeting also discussed preparations for Timor-Leste's full membership of ASEAN. The meeting addressed the growing interest of non-regional countries in acceding to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
The meeting reviewed ASEAN's external relations, emphasizing the need to strengthen ASEAN unity and centrality through ASEAN-led mechanisms. Additionally, officials discussed preparations for the upcoming 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits.
In addition, the meeting finalized ASEAN Leaders' programs and the outcome documents for the summits. Enditem
