JERUSALEM, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- About 100 Israeli warplanes on Monday carried out large scale airstrikes in southern Lebanon, targeting over 120 Hezbollah sites, the Israeli military said.

The Air Force conducted an "extensive aerial operation," striking the sites within an hour, according to a military statement.

The targets included units from Hezbollah's southern front, the Radwan Forces, the missiles and rockets force, and the intelligence directorate, it said.

"This operation follows a series of strikes aimed at degrading Hezbollah's command, control, and firing capabilities, as well as assisting ground forces in achieving their operational objectives," the statement added.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed more than 2,000 people and forced more than a million people to flee their homes, according to figures released by Lebanese authorities. Enditem
