DHAKA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Preparations for the Durga festival of Hindus in Bangladesh are in full swing with the biggest religious event of the Bengali Hindu community just around the corner.

The annual five-day festival is all set to begin with due religious fervor on Wednesday. Security arrangements across Bangladesh have been beefed up for peaceful celebrations of the festival of minority Hindus, which will end with the immersion of the idols on Oct. 13.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, the largest organization of Hindus in Bangladesh, said this year the Durga festival will be celebrated at over 31,400 pavilions in Bangladesh.

On Wednesday, the Bangladeshi Home Ministry issued a set of directives for local administrations and law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order for the peaceful celebration of the festival.

As per the government decision, there will be four-day holidays for the festival celebration from Thursday to Sunday. Enditem
