KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia called for the protection of civilians on Tuesday as the ongoing conflict marks a grim one-year anniversary with continued heavy civilian casualties on the side of Palestinians.

The international community is urged to unite, take bold and decisive action and hold the Israeli government responsible for the seeming lack of regard for civilian lives and infrastructure, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Entire communities have been obliterated, and vast areas of Gaza are now uninhabitable. The world cannot continue to turn a blind eye to these lost lives and stolen futures," it said.

The expansion of the conflict into Lebanon is also alarming with the destruction of essential infrastructure and violations against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon, it added. Enditem
