KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia called for the protection of civilians on Tuesday as the ongoing conflict marks a grim one-year anniversary with continued heavy civilian casualties on the side of Palestinians.

The international community is urged to unite, take bold and decisive action and hold the Israeli government responsible for the seeming lack of regard for civilian lives and infrastructure, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. (Malaysia-Protection-Palestinians)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong logged about 1.216 million visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland during the seven-day National Day holiday ending Monday, up by around 100,000 from the same holiday last year, data from the Hong Kong Immigration Department showed Tuesday.

About 221,000 arrivals were recorded on Oct. 1, the first day of the holiday, up from 177,000 a year earlier, the data showed. (Hong Kong-Visitor Arrivals)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka will pursue BRICS membership at a meeting in Russia later this month, cabinet spokesman Vijitha Herath told media on Tuesday.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's famed Angkor Archaeological Park received 55,440 Chinese visitors during the first nine months of 2024, up 36 percent from 40,771 over the same period last year, said an Angkor Enterprise's report on Tuesday.

The number accounted for 7.92 percent of the total 699,850 international tourist arrivals to the ancient park during the January-September period, the report added. (Cambodia-Angkor-Chinese Visitors)

MACAO -- The tourism office of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) revealed on Tuesday that the seven-day National Day holiday recorded nearly 1 million inbound travelers, averaging 141,000 per day, which is a 22.9-percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, surpassing the average traveler volume in 2019.

The authority said that the volumes of both average daily and single-day visitor arrivals in Macao reached the highest records for National Day holidays, and the average hotel occupancy rate topped 94.5 percent over the holiday period. (Macao-Travelers) Enditem
