ISLAMABAD, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 29 percent in September on a year-on-year basis, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Wednesday.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.849 billion U.S. dollars in September 2024, as compared to 2.206 billion dollars during the corresponding period in 2023, the central bank said.

Cumulatively, with an inflow of 8.8 billion dollars, workers' remittances increased over 38 percent during the first three months of the ongoing fiscal year starting from July 2024 to June 2025, as compared to an inflow of 6.329 billion dollars during the same period in 2023, the SBP added.

Last month, the remittances mainly came from Saudi Arabia with 681.3 million dollars, the United Arab Emirates with 560.3 million dollars, Britain with 423.6 million dollars, and the United States with 274.9 million dollars, according to the bank.

Workers' remittances play an important role in Pakistan's economy as they are one of the major sources of foreign exchange. Enditem
