KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's unemployment rate fell to 3.2 percent in August from 3.3 percent in the previous month, registering 558,500 unemployed persons, official data showed Thursday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that Malaysia's labor market in August continued to expand following the encouraging economic growth, with a continuous increase in the number of employed persons.

In this regard, the number of the labor force in August strengthened further, with a month-on-month increase of 0.1 percent to 17.22 million persons.

As recorded last month, August's labor force participation rate stood at 70.4 percent.

"Malaysia's labor market is expected to remain stable throughout the year, driven by an increase in tourism activities, export expansion and employment-related initiatives under the country's various master plans," DOSM said. Enditem
