TOKYO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Producer prices in Japan rose 2.8 percent in September from a year earlier, marking a record high for the seventh straight month, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) said Thursday.

The producer price index, which measures the prices companies charge each other for goods and services, increased for the 43rd month in a row to reach 123.1, against the 2020 base of 100, buoyed by a weaker yen and reduced energy subsidies, the central bank said in a preliminary report.

In September, producer prices grew for 380 of the 515 items surveyed, while 112 posted lower prices, the BOJ said.

By category, agricultural, forestry and fishery goods prices jumped 12.4 percent chiefly due to rice price hikes, and food and beverage prices went up 2.0 percent as producers continued to reflect higher ingredient costs in their prices. Enditem
