MACAO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Rattanon Wannasrichan showcased an impressive performance on the opening day of the SJM Macao Open 2024, shooting a nine-under-par 61 to claim the early advantage.

The 29-year-old Thai golfer, seeking his breakthrough victory on the Asian Tour, remarked, "I have played in this tournament for about ten years and like the golf course. The key with this golf course is you need to hit a good tee shot."

Just two strokes behind Wannasrichan was Australia's Sam Brazel, who finished with a seven-under 63 despite recording two bogeys during his round.

Defending champion Min Woo Lee, who set a tournament record last year with a remarkable 30-under-par score, had a quieter opening this year, finishing with a two-under 68.

The SJM Macao Open 2024 features a prize pool of 1 million U.S. dollars and consists of 72 holes of stroke play. Following the second round on Friday, the top 65 players out of 144 entrants will qualify to compete over the weekend for the championship. Enditem
