HELSINKI, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Finland is moving forward with the creation of a new Space Situation Center, the government announced on Thursday.

The center will be tasked with observing and monitoring near-Earth space, space operations, and space weather. Its primary mission is to deliver a coordinated, real-time national overview of space activities. Space weather monitoring will also play a crucial role in predicting auroras and preparing for potential space storms.

The government submitted a proposal to Parliament on Thursday to amend relevant legislation, aimed at launching the center's operations as early as December 2024.

According to the government, the center will significantly contribute to Finland's national security by strengthening resilience, protecting critical infrastructure, ensuring supply chain security, and enhancing cybersecurity. Enditem
