KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade sector sales grew 4.7 percent year on year to 149.2 billion ringgit (34.8 billion U.S. dollars) in August, official data showed Friday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that this growth was primarily driven by the retail trade sub-sector, which increased by 5.9 percent.
The motor vehicles sub-sector rose 4.1 percent while wholesale trade leapt 3.7 percent.
On a month-on-month basis, this sector recorded a 0.1 percent increase, reflecting sustained consumer demand and stable market conditions.
