TOKYO -- A Japanese high court has upheld a lower court's ruling that the country's prohibition of dual nationality is constitutional, dismissing a claim by a Japanese-born U.S. citizen, local media reported on Friday.

Plaintiff Yuri Kondo, 77, who resides in Fukuoka Prefecture in southwestern Japan, contended that Article 11 of the nationality law, which stipulates loss of Japanese nationality if a foreign nationality is acquired by choice, violates fundamental human rights related to the pursuit of happiness, self-determination and identity, as protected by the constitution, Kyodo News reported. NEW DELHI -- India's factory activity growth, determined by the index of industrial production (IIP), witnessed a contraction of 0.1 percent in August, the government data showed Friday.

DHAKA -- The World Bank has lowered its 2024-25 fiscal year (July 2024-June 2025) economic growth outlook for Bangladesh mainly due to the South Asian country's political instability.

The global lender in a report titled "South Asia Development Update for October 2024" released on Thursday has forecast a 4 percent growth for Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) in the current fiscal year -- down from 5.2 percent forecast earlier.
