COLOMBO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan rupee has strengthened 10.5 percent against the U.S. dollar up to Oct. 11 this year, according to the latest report from the central bank.

The appreciation was driven by increased inflows, particularly from workers' remittances, tourism revenue, and export conversions, the bank said.

The bank said that workers' remittances reached 555.6 million dollars in September 2024, up from 482.4 million dollars in September 2023.

In September 2024, the bank made net purchases of 96 million dollars from the domestic foreign exchange market, and gross official reserves were provisionally estimated at 5.992 billion dollars at the end of September 2024, the bank said. Enditem
