WELLINGTON -- The sinking of a New Zealand navy ship near the southern coast of Upolu in Samoa has caused concerns over reef damage and oil leaks' threat to the ecosystem.

The multipurpose maritime support ship HMNZS Manawanui, with a displacement of 5,741 tons, struck a reef and was grounded off Samoa last Saturday while conducting a hydrographic survey one nautical mile from shore. All 75 people aboard were successfully rescued. (New Zealand-Navy Ship-Grounded)

JAKARTA -- At least five people have been killed and some others feared dead as a speed boat caught fire in the water off Indonesia's North Maluku province on Saturday, officials said.

The accident occurred at 14:05 local time when the boat with a governor candidate Benny Laos and his supporters on board had been anchoring at a seaport in Taliabu regency and filling fuel before continuing a journey for campaign. (Indonesia-Boat-Fire)

MACAO -- China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) was well-prepared to hold the sixth-term chief executive election, scheduled for Sunday morning at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.
