Over 33,000 cancer patients reported in Sri Lanka last year

COLOMBO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Over 33,000 new cancer patients were reported in Sri Lanka last year, according to a statement from the country's health ministry.

Palitha Mahipala, secretary to the health ministry, said 19,000 deaths were also reported last year. Oral cancer is the most common among men, and breast cancer is the leading type among women.

According to Mahipala, breast, oral, lung, and colorectal cancers are the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Sri Lanka. Enditem
