BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Former Real Madrid and Argentina international midfielder Fernando Gago arrived in Buenos Aires on Sunday ahead of his official unveiling as manager of Boca Juniors.
Gago, who had two spells with Boca as a player, became available after parting ways with Mexican club Guadalajara on Thursday.
"Good night, thank you for being here," the 38-year-old told reporters upon his arrival at Ezeiza international airport.
"I will be brief and sincere, since tomorrow we will be able to talk calmly at a press conference. I want to thank Boca fans for all the support they have given over the past few days. I am coming home."
According to widespread media reports, Gago has agreed to a contract that runs until December 2025, with an option of a 12-month extension.
Boca have been searching for a manager since parting ways with Diego Martinez on September 29 amid a wretched run of results.
The Buenos Aires giants are currently 10th in Argentina's Primera Division standings with just six wins from 17 games, 12 points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield.
Gago, who represented Boca Juniors, Real Madrid, Valencia, Roma, Velez Sarsfield and Argentina's national team during a 16-year playing career, turned to management in 2021.
He had spells in charge of Aldosivi and Racing Club before joining Guadalajara in December 2023. Enditem
