NEW DELHI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) increased to 1.84 percent year on year in September, data released by the federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Monday.

"The annual rate of inflation based on all India WPI number is 1.84 percent (provisional) for the month of September 2024 (over September 2023)," said a statement issued by the ministry.

"Positive rate of inflation in September 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, food products, other manufacturing, manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, manufacture of machinery and equipment, etc."

WPI inflation rate was 1.31 percent in August and 2.10 percent in July.

WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to steep increases or decreases in commodity prices globally.

WPI food inflation increased from 3.26 percent in August to 9.47 percent in September.

The food index involving food articles from the primary articles group and food products from the manufactured products group increased from 193.2 in August to 195.3 in September. Enditem
