Cambodia's elite Brigade 70 celebrates 30th founding anniversary

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Brigade 70, an elite Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) unit, commemorated its 30th founding anniversary on Tuesday, vowing to continue to safeguard the country's peace, security, stability and development.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over the ceremony, during which troops were on parade, displaying military trucks, weapons, armored vehicles, and tanks, among others.

Military attaches of foreign embassies to Cambodia were also invited to the event, which was held at the headquarters of the Brigade 70 in the southwestern suburb of the capital Phnom Penh.

Hun Manet commended the armed forces for their great contributions to and sacrifices for protecting the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as contributing to keeping peace in the region and in the world.

"The armed forces must adhere to a high level of professionalism, and they must be absolutely loyal to the nation and the people," he said.

The prime minister added that the armed forces have also played an important role in disaster preparedness and response, urging them to routinely strengthen their capacities and skills.

Lieutenant General Hem Tha, commander of the Brigade 70, said in all circumstances, the brigade is always loyal to the nation, religion and king, and is committed to protecting the government and people.

"The Brigade 70 has actively participated in the implementation of the government's orders against illegal activities such as forest crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, subversion, color revolution, terrorism, and transnational crime," he said. Enditem
